Olomouc - The regional government plans to build a new depository for the Scientific Library in Olomouc. The library currently has its archives located in several buildings, including a former church in the center of Olomouc, some of which are not suitable for this purpose. The construction of the new depository in Olomouc will cost a maximum of 135 million crowns, with the costs covered by a grant from European funds, said Governor Jiří Rozbořil (ČSSD) to journalists today. The Olomouc region intends to build the new depository on land it owns behind an elementary school for the visually impaired in Olomouc-Hejčín. The regional office has already begun preparing the project documentation for the new book storage facility to be ready when the Ministry of Culture announces a grant program focused on such buildings. "The depository could be built in 2017," stated Rozbořil. The grant is supposed to cover all construction costs, which must not exceed 135 million crowns. "Our initial estimate for the construction was 160 million crowns. Therefore, we will have to adjust the project to fit within the limit. If we exceed the specified amount, the grant will not be awarded," the governor noted. Books from the archives that the scientific library has in several buildings in Olomouc and its surroundings will be relocated to the new depository. The regional government expects that the Neo-Gothic church next to the library's central building, currently used for storing book volumes, will also be vacated. According to Rozbořil, the deconsecrated church could be used in the future as a cultural and social facility for 120 people, where concerts and theatrical performances will be held.
