Brno - Work on the multifunctional hall being constructed at the Brno Exhibition Centre is now focused on building the ice surface. Workers are also installing lighting and finishing up the modifications of the outdoor paved areas. Petr Kratochvíl (ODS), the chairman of the board of the city company Arena Brno and a transport councilor, said this today to ČTK. The construction, costing approximately five billion crowns, is set to open in October, according to Kratochvíl.
"Workers are working on all interior matters, for instance, in areas designated for commentary purposes. They are working on the finishing of the restrooms. They are also addressing technical distributions and installing lighting. Outside, they are finalizing work on the parking lot and planting trees," said Kratochvíl.
The construction of the hall began in September 2023, and the opening date is planned for October 25, according to Kratochvíl. Around 100 events are expected to take place there annually. Over 60 percent of the program will consist of concerts by both Czech and international music names, family shows, and other cultural events. A significant portion will be dedicated to sports. The arena will be the home of the ice hockey club Kometa Brno.
The original costs were 4.4 billion crowns, which gradually increased by about half a billion. Additional hundreds of millions will be spent on furnishing the arena. Upon completion, the building will offer 30 different types of use, have a capacity of up to 13,000 spectators, and 1,300 parking spaces.
