Mělník

The leadership of Mělník today presented a proposal for a new sports hall in the area of the campsite. The final design will still be adjusted by architects. The city is now preparing to select a designer. On Monday, the councilors will comment on the planned construction. The estimated costs for the construction will be around 140 million crowns, said Jan Denemark Nováček, spokesperson for the Mělník town hall.

"The goal of the project is to build a modern multi-purpose sports hall that will serve sports clubs, schools, and the general public, while also addressing the long-standing shortage of quality sports facilities in the city," stated Mělník's mayor Tomáš Martinec (ODS).

According to him, the hall will meet the requirements for basketball, handball, volleyball, floorball, futsal, and other indoor sports. "Thanks to the system of partition nets, it will be possible to divide the main space into several separate training areas," Martinec added. The hall will also serve for organizing tournaments, boxing matches, cultural events, and similar activities.

The city has completed an architectural-technical study, expert surveys, opinions from relevant authorities, and an investor's brief for the subsequent project documentation. At the same time, discussions were held with sports clubs regarding the requirements for capacity, operational conditions, and facilities. The construction intends to utilize a grant from the National Sports Agency.

The hall will include eight changing rooms, a gym, meeting rooms, and modern technical and operational facilities including, for example, a solar power plant and an air conditioning system with heat recovery. New parking spaces will also be created.
