Prostějov

Prostějov - A new municipal relaxation and sports center with three swimming pools, a nearly 100-meter long slide, a triple slide, and a number of other attractions is now available to the residents and visitors of Prostějov. The construction costs reached at least 160 million crowns, said councilor and managing director of Mi Pro Stav, Pavel Drmola, to reporters today. However, due to the new aqua park, the city faces a half-million fine from the antimonopoly office, and the city hall has filed a complaint against the decision.

"Prostějov has finally acquired a comprehensive sports and relaxation center. We are starting with a trial operation; we need to test everything and get familiar with it. Only after that will the operational costs be accurately calculated," Drmola stated. According to him, the main goal is for the facility to be regularly accessible to the general public. The entrance fee, which is set at 50 crowns for adults and 35 crowns for children, was adjusted accordingly.
"We negotiated about the price for a long time and finally agreed on an amount that is acceptable for the residents. We are moving forward with the project with the risk that the swimming pool may not be self-sustaining. We are prepared to subsidize its operations to a certain extent," deputy mayor Miroslav Pišťák told reporters today. After its opening, hundreds of people flocked to the aqua park despite the cloudy weather. "It's really nice here. Prostějov was missing something like this. Especially the slide," said ten-year-old Matěj.
The owner of the facility is the company Mi Pro Stav. It was established in 2005, with the city of Prostějov holding 51 percent of the company shares and Micos, spol. s. r. o., holding 49 percent. For the construction of the facility, the company utilized a loan of 160 million crowns. According to the company's management, the final settlement of the construction will be done in September this year. The city's share will increase in the coming years.
However, the antimonopoly office imposed a fine of half a million crowns on Prostějov for not issuing a public tender and awarding the contract to Micos and Mi Pro Stav based on a public-private partnership agreement. The city hall has filed a complaint, and no decision has yet been made regarding it.
The aqua park will be open in Prostějov daily from 09:00 to 20:00. Its capacity is 2500 people, and it may happen that additional visitors will be turned away. The facility also includes a restaurant, a beach volleyball court, petanque, and outdoor tables for table tennis.
