Vsetín – The Museum of the Valašsko Region has completed the reconstruction of the Vsetín Castle. A quartet of projects in the third phase of the castle's renovation cost nearly 40 million crowns, said museum representative Jiří Koňařík to ČTK today. The reconstruction of the 17th-century monument, which is one of the five branches of the museum, began in 2014. The first two phases cost almost 50 million.

"Among the most significant points were the new depositories and permanent exhibition, the reconstruction of the electrical wiring, the refurbishment of historical windows, the reconstruction of the castle wall, and the installation of a unique fire protection system in the tower. In 2023, the museum started the third phase, which was divided into four individual projects due to financial demands," stated Koňařík.

The most important was the restoration of the castle's façade and the installation of an elevator to visitor areas on the first floor. This was followed by the reconstruction of the castle park, including paths and walkways. The third project involved construction modifications to the castle terrace, and the last consisted of the restoration of greenery and the new planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers.

"The total costs for all four projects amounted to 40 million crowns. Half of this was financed by our founder, the Zlín Region, and the remaining 20 million was obtained through grants," said museum director Tomáš Vitásek. The city of Vsetín followed up the park modifications with the reconstruction of pathways around the castle and financed the replacement of public lighting in the castle park.

Thanks to its location above the city center, the castle is one of the landmarks of Vsetín. It offers an exhibition on Valašsko, a viewpoint from the castle tower, and the Templar cellar with a knight's gaming room. It also hosts temporary exhibitions and various events.
