Vysoká nad Labem (Hradecko) - A new observation tower has been built on the Milíř hill near the village of Vysoká nad Labem in Hradec Králové. In good weather, visitors from the viewing platform at a height of 27 meters can see the Jeseníky, Krkonoše with Sněžka, Orlické and Železné hory mountains. The project, costing five million crowns, was financed by the municipality. With a triangular arrangement of the structure made of wood, steel, and cast concrete, it is the only building of its kind in the Czech Republic, stated the mayor of Vysoká, Jiří Horák, today. The official opening of the tower, which is expected to become a tourist magnet for the region, is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

The tower has three supporting pillars made of glued wood, each 30 meters long. They are assembled from six-meter sections. The pillars encircle a steel staircase with 144 steps, which is composed of three eight-meter pieces. The viewing platform is hexagonal. The lower part of the tower is made of cast concrete and, besides facilities, it also has two observation terraces. The total height of the tower is 31 meters and it weighs 22 tons. The foundations of the tower consist of 300 tons of concrete and seven tons of steel.
The tower is built on the site where the original wooden observation tower stood after World War II. The municipality, along with an association for the restoration of the tower, has been working towards the construction of a new viewpoint since 2005. In 2009, the project received building permission, and two years later, the cornerstone was laid. The municipality managed to secure a total of 1.9 million crowns in grants from the region and the State Agricultural Intervention Fund for the construction. The firm INGBAU CZ built the tower for the municipality according to a project by ARCHaPLAN Hradec Králové.
The municipality believes that the tower will become a highly sought-after tourist attraction for the entire region. "Vysoká nad Labem lies at the crossroads of marked tourist paths and cycling routes. It is the closest observation tower to the center of Hradec Králové," stated Horák. He added that the tower will also be a landmark of the planned cycling path between Hradec Králové and Pardubice, called Mech and Gingerbread.
In the Hradec Králové Region, several new observation points have been established in recent years. For example, in October 2010, a 17-meter high observation tower was opened on Anenský Hill in the Orlické mountains. In 2009, a tower over 30 meters high began serving tourists on Hnědý Hill above Pec pod Sněžkou.
