René van Zuuk Architects: Projects 1992-2007
The Jaroslav Fragner Gallery will showcase the work of another significant Dutch architect and his studio. René van Zuuk studied at the Technische Universiteit in Eindhoven, where he has also been a professor since 2003. Fourteen years ago, he founded his own studio in Almere.
Among his interesting realizations are the new headquarters of the Architectural Center in Amsterdam ARCAM and the Art Pavilion in Zeewolde. Three years ago, a bridge in Almere was constructed according to his design, leading to the Block 16 apartment building, also his construction, nicknamed for its dynamics "Wave." It is part of the master plan designed by the OMA studio for the new center in Almere.
Last year, an apartment building in Lelystad was completed, which is part of the master plan for a new section of the newly emerging city by the leading urban planning studio West 8.
René van Zuuk was nominated for the NAI Award in 2001 and the Mies van der Rohe Award a year later.
The exhibition and lecture will be inaugurated by the director of ARCAM – the architectural center in Amsterdam – Maarten Kloos. The headquarters of this institution is one of the projects developed by van Zuuk’s studio.
A Czech-English catalog will also be published for the exhibition, including the first catalog of this Dutch studio.
