Park modification

Due to its location at the interface of the city and greenery, Újezd could, if not should, serve as the main gateway to Petřín Park. However, this potential is not fully utilized today.
The new proposal more clearly opens the city towards the Petřín Gardens with a view of the dominant Prague Castle, thus blurring the boundary between the city and the park. The newly designed paths follow the most frequented directions, ensuring a smooth movement of people from the city to the park and vice versa. In addition to providing direct access to the cable car from the level of the sidewalk, the original terrain layout is preserved. The slope, however, gains a new use and a more logical arrangement respecting the needs of the residents due to the proposed structure.

Museum of Communism

“In the Czech Republic, there is currently no museum exhibition where one could comprehensively learn about the most pressing part of Czech history - the causes and course of communism.” Marek Junek, head of the Modern History Department of the NM (Respekt 03/2008).
The form and function of the building connects to the existing Memorial to the Victims of Communism. The design takes advantage of the height differences in the terrain, which directly influence the shape of the museum. The exhibition spaces are thus formed by a system of interconnecting ramps, along which the visitor passes through the exhibition until reaching the "lantern," where the exhibition ends and the visitor is offered the option to step outside to the memorial. The Memorial to the Victims of Communism thus indirectly becomes part of the exhibition. Around the cinema hall and social facilities, the visitor is then led into a café illuminated through "benches" in the slope (see section).
