Hradec Králové – Builders under the reconstructed Mileta intersection in Hradec Králové opened a key underpass connecting the city center and the university campus with the teaching hospital and the largest residential area of Hradec Králové, Moravské Předměstí. CTK was informed today by the site manager Petr Mareš. Along with the underpass, the connecting roads and a new bus stop for public transport at the Faculty Hospital UK on Zborovská Street opposite the headquarters of the emergency medical service also began operations today.
Thousands of people walk daily along the route between the city center and the hospital. Until now, they had to cross the four-lane road on Sokolská Street at the main entrance to the teaching hospital and walk or drive about 800 meters. Many people shortened their journey by recklessly darting across the road.
The reconstruction of the traffic light-controlled intersection, costing 634 million crowns, began in April 2024, and vehicular traffic returned to it at the end of this April. The goal is to enhance safety and expedite traffic at the intersection, through which tens of thousands of cars pass daily, particularly with the help of four underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists beneath the arms of the intersection.
The underpass under the arm of the intersection leading to the city center has been in operation since last autumn. The remaining two underpasses under the intersection are expected to be opened by the builders at the turn of July and August, said Mareš.
Builders are still working at Mileta. By the turn of July and August, they plan to complete the connection of the intersection to Benešova Avenue and finish the two-lane strip along the base of the emergency medical service. Subsequently, the builders will conduct landscaping work. All work at Mileta should be completed with landscaping adjustments by April 2027. The project is a joint investment by the Directorate of Roads and Highways, the Hradec Králové Region, and the city.
