Vrchlabí – The construction of a day care pavilion and orthopedic department began today at the hospital in Vrchlabí with a ground-breaking ceremony. The building is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year and will open for patients at the beginning of 2027. The total investment, including equipment and other items, amounts to 522 million crowns including VAT. Representatives of the Penta Hospitals CZ group, to which the hospital belongs, said this today to ČTK. The hospital has been a member of the group since 2016.
The new pavilion is expected to significantly strengthen the capacities of the hospital in the Krkonošsko region. "We see the start of the pavilion's construction as an important step in further developing quality and accessible healthcare in the region. This project builds on our long-term investments in modernizing the hospital and confirms our role as a stable investor in Czech healthcare," said Barbora Vaculíková, CEO of Penta Hospitals CZ.
At the Vrchlabí Hospital, patients go through orthopedic care in one place, from surgery to rehabilitation, which is critical according to its representatives. "This significantly speeds up the patient's return to normal life," Vaculíková added.
According to the hospital director Michal Mrázek, the new pavilion will greatly strengthen the hospital's capacities, particularly in day care and orthopedics, which are among the busiest operations in the hospital. "The project also includes four modern operating rooms and facilities that meet current healthcare standards," Mrázek stated.
The building will have a floor area of 3,773 m², a footprint of 2,144 m², and a height of over 11 meters. It is being constructed as a modular building on a monolithic foundation with a flat roof. The project also includes a transformer station and retention tanks with a volume of 68 m³. The complex will have 24 parking spaces, two of which will be designated for the disabled.
Vrchlabí Hospital offers patients services from outpatient specialists to acute medicine and follow-up care. It has over 130 beds and around 400 employees. Last year, it increased the volume of care provided. The number of surgeries rose by 6.2 percent year-on-year to 1,580 procedures from 1,488 in 2024. An increase was also recorded in outpatient care, with the number of treated patients rising by 7.1 percent to 24,373.
Since 2016, total investments in the hospital's development have been around one billion crowns. In 2025, the hospital invested over two million crowns, for example, in the reconstruction of the follow-up care department. Last year, the outpatient clinics for diabetes, dermatology, and neurology were also modernized, and new spaces were created for another orthopedic outpatient clinic.
In the region, healthcare is also provided by county hospitals and the Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové.
