Workers will begin building the foundation slab of the parking garage at the Children's Hospital Brno

Brno – Four months after the start of construction of the parking garage near the Brno Children's Hospital on Černopolní Street, workers have demolished the building where the parking garage will be built and completed the foundation work. In about three weeks, the builders will begin constructing the foundation slab, said Lenka Martinková, head of the Communication and Marketing Center of the Faculty Hospital Brno, according to ČTK.

The parking garage, costing 193 million crowns, is expected to be completed by spring next year. Parking in the vicinity of the Children's Hospital has long been problematic, and efforts to build a parking garage have been made for many years. It was originally supposed to be completed last year, but the building permit was granted this January.

Current works at the construction site are assisted by excavators and cranes. In addition to preparing the area for the foundation, workers have also constructed a retention tank and a grease interceptor, a pit that prevents the escape of fats into the sewage system. A service sidewalk has been created along the construction.

The parking garage will have four above-ground and one underground floor, featuring a metal façade that can be allowed to grow with climbing plants. The entry level will have sanitary facilities with a cleaning room, and the last floor will have charging stations for electric vehicles. The project also plans for two elevators, one of which will allow for the transport of beds. The new building will serve the hospital's employees and visitors.

Out of a total of 373 parking spaces, nine will be for disabled passengers, four for families, and 20 for electric vehicles. The building will be connected by a new entrance from the park at the corner of Helfertova and Černopolní streets. "The new parking garage will provide sufficient parking capacity and eliminate the stressful situations associated with finding parking, which were often the first obstacle for parents seeking care for their children," added Martinková.
