Saint-Gobain has revealed the winners of the 14th edition of the prestigious international competition International Gypsum Trophy, which took place on April 10, 2025, in Paris. This year's edition saw the participation of 85 projects from 29 countries competing in six categories. Three winning projects represented the Czech Republic at the national level of the competition. The residential building Fragment impressed the jury with its approach to innovation.

The Czech representation was complemented by two renovation projects – Cultural Center Milovice and Visitor Center KRNAP. The buildings were chosen for their technical complexity, quality of execution, and inspirational approach to modern construction with Saint-Gobain's system solutions. It has been confirmed that Czech projects stand strong against the highest international standards and that our implementing companies deliver quality work using the most modern materials and technologies.

The biggest success was achieved by the Fragment project from Trigema a.s., which took second place in the Innovation category. The residential rental project utilizes Climafit technology for ceiling cooling and heating and also works with other solutions for energy and water savings. "Fragment is the only residential building in the Czech Republic that uses cooling and heating integrated into the ceilings on such a scale. While concerns often arise about cold floors without underfloor heating or difficult temperature regulation, this innovative system operates on the principle of radiant heat, ensuring constant comfort," explained Roman Kučera, specialist in ceiling systems of the Rigips brand, Saint-Gobain. This iconic building in Prague's Karlín area combines residential living with an artistic dimension – its façade features monumental sculptures by artist David Černý. "Fragment, as the flagship of Trigema, redefines rental housing in the Czech Republic. It connects architecture, art, and design in both exteriors and interiors, and thanks to added services and a high standard, it significantly surpasses the boundary of 'ordinary' rental housing. Technological innovations and sustainability have been a natural part of our pursuit of excellence in all respects. We are even more pleased that this approach was appreciated by the competition jury – allowing us to add another award to our collection," said Marcel Soural, chairman of the board of the Trigema investment group.

In the ceiling category, the reconstruction of the Cultural Center in Milovice was nominated, where the dry construction systems were addressed by the implementation company of Vítězslav Kopecký. This is an example of a quality renovation of a historic building that managed to combine the original character of the building with the needs of contemporary public space. Key roles were played by Rigips gypsum and mineral ceilings, which enabled the achievement of high acoustic comfort and significant aesthetic quality of the interior – particularly due to the unconventional ceiling with a plastic 3D effect in the main hall.

The third Czech representative was the reconstruction of the Visitor Center of the Krkonošsko-jesenický National Park (KRNAP) in Vrchlabí, implemented by Fialkovsky s.r.o. The project stands out for utilizing prefabricated gypsum elements, manufactured using CNC technologies by Ekomont spol. s r.o., which allowed for rapid and efficient assembly with minimal impact on the historical structure of the building. Due to the presence of open water surfaces, special impregnated gypsum boards Glasroc H were used, ensuring long-term durability and stability of the interior.

The absolute winner of the 2025 edition and holder of the Grand Prix was the Shebara South Island Resort project in the United Arab Emirates. This luxury hotel, built on the uninhabited Shaybara island in the Red Sea, captivated the jury not only with its exceptional architecture featuring floating capsules but also with its precise technical solutions and utilized technologies.

The Saint-Gobain International Gypsum Trophy is an international competition that rewards exceptional projects in the field of dry construction every two years. The competition emphasizes technical precision, aesthetics, innovation, and sustainability. This year's edition once again confirmed that projects from the Czech Republic have much to offer.
