Znojmo - Znojmo has repaired the roof of the Loucký Monastery convent. It was correcting the damage caused by the wind, which blew off part of the roofing material known as slate. In many places, it needed to be supplemented. Next year, long-term repairs of the monastery are expected to continue. The underground is to be mapped in more detail, and repairs to the so-called old school will also proceed, said the city's spokesperson Zuzana Pastrňáková to ČTK.

The roof repair was carried out in an unconventional way, significantly aided by firefighters. "The work was problematic due to the height of the building. The firefighters are the only ones in Znojmo who have access to a platform that reaches a height of 37 meters. Thanks to this and their training, they were able to access the areas that needed repairs, for which the city thanks them. We did not have to order equipment all the way from Brno," said Mayor Jan Grois (ČSSD).

The city wants to map the underground in detail. Already this year, it obtained a study that mapped the corridors and has their 3D model. However, this is only part of the project; next year, another section is expected to be dealt with. Many corridors need to be cleared of debris or mud. In addition to a classic tourist sightseeing route, the city is also considering organizing an escape game.

Work is also gradually underway to restore the old school, which is set to become a community and educational center. It is expected to be completed by 2021. The replacement or refurbishment of the original windows will also continue. The city invests millions of crowns annually into the renovation of the grand originally ecclesiastical complex, and with subsidies, it goes up to tens of millions. The monastery has been owned by the city since 2010, when it acquired it from the state.

The monastery was founded in 1190 by Czech Prince Conrad II of Ottokar and settled with Premonstratensians. The Hussites looted it, and a massive reconstruction began in the 18th century. However, due to the reforms of Emperor Joseph II, it was not completed, and the monastery was abolished in 1784, serving for tobacco processing and later for soldiers for 200 years. Two years ago, it was declared a cultural monument. Today, part of it is used by the company Znovín.
