Construction of the Cidlina relaxation zone in Jičín will begin in September and will cost 153 million crowns

Jičín - The construction of the rest area and Cidlina park in Jičín is expected to start in September. For 152.9 million crowns, the Litoměřice company Gardenline will build it for the city. The city has signed a contract with the company, which was the winner of the tender, spokesperson Jan Jireš told ČTK today. The idea of creating a rest area with the largest urban park from about ten hectares of land around the Cidlina has been around for over 20 years. The construction is among the investment priorities of the city council and is expected to be completed in 2027.

The location is particularly important for the people from the Nové Město housing estate, where there is neither a park nor public greenery. The area will be on undeveloped land between the Nové Město district and the Cidlina River, not far from industrial facilities.

There are plans for a bike path, walking trails and park, play areas and playgrounds for children and adults, a skatepark, a pump track for cycling, several footbridges and fords, resting places, barbecue corners, and an artificial hill for sledding. The river habitat of the Cidlina will be preserved, and measures are planned for rainwater retention.

The builders will proceed according to the documentation prepared by the Rehwaldt Landscape Architects office. They won the architectural-landscape competition announced by the city council in 2019 for the design of the area.

Prior to that, the city council conducted various forms of discussions with residents about the shape of the area. In 2022, the city obtained a zoning decision for the construction of the area and had previously purchased land in the area for millions of crowns and arranged for the relocation of electrical lines and gas pipelines. Last year, the city received a grant of 56 million crowns for construction from the European IROP program.

In September, a major reconstruction of Ruská and Poděbradova streets worth more than 300 million crowns will also begin in Nové Město. These streets are among the main routes in the sixteen-thousand-strong city. The work is expected to be completed in 2028.
