Jičín - The recreational zone and Cidlina park in Jičín will be constructed for 152.9 million crowns by the Litoměřice company Gardenline. There were two bidders in the tender. Construction could begin this fall and should be completed in 2027, said Jičín's Deputy Mayor Petr Hamáček (KDU-ČSL) today. The idea of creating a recreational zone with the largest urban park from about ten hectares of land around Cidlina is over 20 years old. The construction is among the investment priorities of the city council.
The location is particularly important for residents of the Nové Město housing estate, which lacks any park or public green space. The zone will be situated on unused land between the Nové Město neighborhood and the Cidlina river, not far from industrial facilities.
There will be a bike path, walking trail, park, play areas and playgrounds for both children and adults, a skatepark, a pump track for cycling, several footbridges and fords, rest areas, barbecue spots, and an artificial hill for sledding. The river habitat of Cidlina will be preserved, and plans include measures to retain rainwater.
The builders will proceed according to the documentation prepared by Rehwaldt Landscape Architects. They won the architectural and landscape competition that the city council announced in 2019 for the design of the zone.
Previously, the city council conducted various forms of discussion with residents about the design of the zone. In 2022, the city obtained a zoning decision for the construction of the zone and had previously purchased land in the area for millions of crowns and arranged for the relocation of electrical lines and gas pipelines.
Last year, the city received a grant of 56 million crowns for the construction from the European IROP program. According to the conditions of the grant, the completion date for the construction is set for the fall of 2027.
