Prague - About 3,000 apartments, 20,000 square meters of offices and shops, and several thousand parking spaces should be created in Prosek, Prague 9 over the next few years. This was stated today by the mayor of Prague 9, Jan Jarolím. This mainly involves private investments in the order of tens of billions of crowns. Construction is already gradually changing the face of Prosek. In recent years, 11 four-story buildings with 200 apartments have been built on Na Vyhlídce Street. The last building, the twelfth, is still under construction. In the vicinity, the local council of Prague 9 wants to revitalize the pedestrian zone around St. Wenceslas Church, known as Old Prosek, with the help of European funds. In the summer, the ninth district will complete the renovation of Friendship Park. Two metro stations of the extended C line are also being constructed there. While the Střížkov station cannot be overlooked due to the huge steel and glass structure shaped like a whale above ground, only skylights for the platform will be visible from the Prosek station on the surface. The extended metro line will be put into operation this May. At the intersection of Prosecká and Vysočanská Streets, a complex of multifunctional buildings called Prosek Point is already taking shape, which will be completed next year. It will consist of three eight-story buildings. Ground floor visitors will find shops, services, and restaurants, while the remaining spaces will be offices. "The Prosek housing estate is thus changing from a dormitory of Prague into a modern and developing urban district. New commercial and administrative centers are also being created that will offer local residents a range of job opportunities," said Deputy Mayor Pavel Klega today. He added that the housing estate will not be as dependent on the city center, and people will not have to commute as much for work, shopping, and culture. In the coming years, further construction is planned around the Střížkov metro station. The Prosek polyclinic will receive an additional extension. A multifunctional project Prosek and a residential park Prosek will follow the polyclinic complex. "These are independent residential buildings with access roads that will also connect this area with Letňany," Jarolím stated. Three buildings with 312 apartments are already completed. In the next phase, another 700 apartments will be created - 400 by 2011 and 300 by 2012. Office and retail spaces will also be included. Residential buildings will also be built in Kytlická Street, and by the end of next year, an additional 237 housing units will be available there. Currently, projects are being planned that are expected to be implemented around 2015. These include the multifunctional center Klíčov in the triangle of Prosecká, Letňanská, and Čakovická streets, high-rise administrative buildings on the northern side of Friendship Park, and next to the Duo Hotel and residential buildings Pod Krocínkou, which will create another hundred apartments.
