Prostějov - The city of Prostějov has acquired in long-term lease portraits of architect Karel Hugo Kepka and his wife. According to Kepka's plans, a new city hall in a historicist style was built in 1914, resembling Washington architecture. The city's spokesperson Jana Gáborová told ČTK that the paintings are located in the meeting room next to the ceremonial hall on the second floor of the building. "These are two large canvases, created by Jan knight Skramlík. The works were lent to the city by one of the architect’s descendants, who inherited the paintings," said Gáborová. According to her colleague Jaroslava Tatarkovičová, people can view the paintings during the Days of European Cultural Heritage, which will take place on the second Sunday in September. Kepka was a professor at the German Technical University in Brno. He died in 1924. The Prostějov town hall is distinguished by its rich stuccos and decorations, its walls are intricately structured, its ceilings are coffered, and Karara marble was used for the fireplaces. A massive tower with a copper dome and an astronomical clock was originally intended to stand in the middle of the main facade. However, the planned right wing was not completed because the land of the neighboring house could not be purchased.
