Renovated – The renovated Municipal Stadium in Semily will also receive a new operations building. It will cost the town hall 66.4 million crowns, with construction expected to begin in the summer, spokesperson for the town hall Kateřina Šromová informed ČTK today. The city had the athletic stadium renovated in recent years for 62 million crowns, but the facilities were not updated. The town hall is now requesting a grant from the new investment program of the Liberec Region for the construction of the new building, which could receive up to 20 million crowns.
According to Deputy Mayor Tomáš Sábl (Choice for Semily), the need for adequate facilities will be fully realized after the completion of the new athletic stadium in 2024. Therefore, the city has prepared the construction of a new operations building, which should be completed by the end of May next year. The basis for the new building is an architectural design from 2013, which, however, needed a fundamental revision to meet current standards and the real needs of the site.
"Since 2013, the utilization of the stadium has changed significantly. A new athletics club has been established, the Semily Secondary School has opened a Fire Protection program, and a wide range of the public regularly participates in sports at the stadium. We therefore updated the project and increased the number of changing rooms to meet the demand during weekend events," Sábl described the reasons for the changes. According to him, the project also responds to trends in energy efficiency – photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof to ensure partial energy self-sufficiency for the building.
The new operations building will offer two large football changing rooms, six smaller changing rooms, and five separate facilities for referees. The building will also include storage rooms, a caretaker's area, a laundry room, a medical room, a meeting room, and new refreshments with both indoor and outdoor seating. The contract for the construction was awarded to the Semily company MBQ. The project also includes the demolition of the current inadequate changing rooms, which is planned to take place only after the new facilities are approved.
Construction work should not restrict the operation of the current refreshments at the stadium until at least the end of July, and safe access to the pitches as well as free passage for emergency services will be maintained throughout the construction period. The contractor is also contractually prohibited from carrying out noisy work during previously announced sporting events and competitions. After the construction is completed, the company will also ensure the modification of the surrounding areas, including new stepped outdoor seating directed towards the volleyball courts.
