Ostrava – The Ostrava gallery PLATO, which focuses on the presentation of contemporary art, is preparing a weekend program that will include an overnight stay in the gallery's garden. The event is part of the celebrations for the tenth anniversary of the institution's founding. The gallery's spokesperson Dita Eibenová said this to ČTK today. The garden retreat will take place on June 20 and 21.
"We invite you to a unique weekend program. The two-day garden retreat will offer an intensive schedule and the opportunity to sleep right in the gallery's garden. There are only 40 spots available," Eibenová stated. According to her, participants can spend the night from Saturday to Sunday in their own tent or simply under the open sky, surrounded by the urban garden.
The gallery was established in 2016 and at that time did not have its own premises. It gradually operated in several locations. Since 2022, it has resided in the building of the former slaughterhouse. The total costs for transforming the building, including its purchase, were nearly 345 million crowns.
The reconstruction lasted more than two years. Notable features of the transformation include rotating gates as well as brick walls, which make up not only the majority of the exterior walls but also part of the interior. All original bricks that could be retained in the building remain. New bricks are patinated to appear like the original masonry. The interiors are dominated by white color, and in several places, there is a designer concrete finish.
