Conceptual design of public seating
Part 1 - Foster&Partners: Gateshead
Part 2 - Ricardo Boffil: Miguel Delibes Cultural Center
Part 3 - Mutaflex
Part 4 - Selected Projects
In the latest installment of our open series dedicated to seating in public spaces, we present several interesting realizations that the Spanish company Figueras has implemented around the world. The sophisticated technical solutions and in-house development center at Figueras provide this company with the extensive support needed to carry out massive projects, whether they are airport terminals, stadiums, conference spaces, or multifunctional halls and centers.

Cultural Center in Bergheim, Germany, is the largest hall of its kind in the city. The space is used for a wide range of cultural events, concerts of all possible musical genres, citizens' meetings, and conferences. Therefore, architects from the Busmann & Haberer office designed the multifunctional Delta seating (models 430 and 433 were used) with a total of 1,200 seats. The quick configuration of the space and a wide array of options to adjust the main auditorium to current needs were the main requirements for the system used. The automatic folding seat mechanism allows guests to pass easily in the rows, and likewise, attendees have sufficient comfort while seated. The Delta seats used by the architects in this cultural center are stackable, can be joined in rows, and are numbered. At conferences, they can be complemented with small side tables F-45.

Concert Hall in Girona, Spain, was designed by architects Manel Bosch, Jordi Bosch, and Joan Tarros as a modern conference center for the 21st century. The main auditorium has 1,230 seats, and two adjacent halls host concerts, smaller conferences, and meetings. For this project, the Figueras Design Centre developed a special version of the Flex Seating Concept series. The wooden surface of the chairs also functions in the acoustic modeling of the space.

The third project is the White House Press Center, which Figueras completed in the middle of last year. The selected model for the White House was the Flame model, designed by Portuguese architect and designer Filipe Oliveira Dias. Flame is a model from the most luxurious range, upholstered in leather and featuring a unique aluminum base. Like the previous model, Flame also serves as an acoustic element in the interior.

The presented reference projects demonstrate a wide spectrum of possibilities and applications of system solutions. Explore complete technical solutions and products from Figueras at www.figueras.cz
