In the Moravian-Silesian Region, the competition for the best facade of the year is once again underway

Among the awardees last year was the building of the company UAX, designed by architect Kamil Mrva.

Ostrava - In the Moravian-Silesian Region, a competition for the best facade completed this year has started today. Architects, builders, and investors can for the seventh time submit a renovated house in one of five categories. This year's novelty is the category of Energy-efficient buildings. For the first time, the expert jury will assess not only the appearance and execution of the facade but also its impact on the energy demand of the entire building. Architect and jury chairman Jan Zelinka said this to journalists today.
The four traditional categories - family house, apartment building, panel building, and administrative/industrial building - will this year be expanded to include a category where seven expert judges will evaluate the energy efficiency of the facade. "For example, among panel buildings, a house that is not attractively colorful but has glazed loggias, quality windows, recovery units, or a heat pump will be rated better," hinted Zelinka.
Judge Vladimír Baginský from the Regional Energy Agency added that facades equipped with solar panels can also succeed. "They can be placed on family houses, but also on panel buildings, where they can fill the railings of balconies," he told ČTK.
In the new category, judges will not only evaluate the facade but also appreciate the approach and courage of those who address the facade comprehensively with regard to energy efficiency. "Let us hope that the new category will be filled. For example, last year there was no renovation in the region in a way that the facade contributed to energy savings," hinted Zelinka.
People can submit only renovations of facades that were completed this year in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Applications can be submitted until January 30. More details about the competition can be found on the website www.fasadakraje.cz.
Last year, 98 competitors took part in the competition, which was about twenty more than the year before. The facade of building F of the Regional Office in Ostrava or the apartment buildings in Nálepkovo Square in Ostrava-Poruba were awarded, for example.
