Chodov – The Railway Administration is preparing the construction of a new station building in Chodov in the Sokolov district. It will be located near the barrier-free underpass to the island platform on the way to the old station. This location was already considered during the construction of the platforms and the modernization of the station, stated Railway Administration spokeswoman Radka Pistoriusová. The start date for the work is set for the first half of 2022, and the expected investment costs for the project are 38 million crowns.
The new facility will be single-story, energy-efficient, and partially embedded in the existing terrain. It is designed to be largely fully glazed with aluminum profiles and security glazing, including shading blinds. The ticket hall will be spacious and bright. The main entrance will be from a covered central area that connects access from the planned bus stop, from the newly designed parking lot, and also from the sidewalk leading to platform 1 and the already completed underpass to platform 2, stated Pistoriusová.
The existing station building is oversized for current needs and in poor technical condition. After the new facility is built, it will be demolished, and a bus stop will be created in its place during disruptions. Modifications are also planned around the building, including parking for 28 vehicles, motorcycle parking, and bicycle racks and boxes.
Chodov's mayor Patrik Pizinger (Local) also welcomes the design of the new station building. "I consider the project to be successful. The platformization of the station has already shifted access to the train station in Chodov towards the center to Nádražní Street, so we have been proposing from the beginning that the new ticket building be created precisely in these places, at the entrance to the underpass," said Pizinger. The Chodov train station underwent a comprehensive reconstruction four years ago for approximately 500 million crowns. New platforms and underpasses were built, and technologies were improved.
The city is also planning investments at the train station, where it will construct new sidewalks, a bus stop, and public lighting. The city hall aims to have a completed project next year that will determine the exact costs.
The Railway Administration is also preparing overall renovations at stations in Bečov nad Ohří and Františkovy Lázně in the Karlovy Vary region. Work is expected to begin there in 2022. Perhaps the most significant repair will be the reconstruction of the heritage-protected station in Cheb, which should start next year.
