Chodov - In the Karlovy Vary region, the Railway Administration (SŽ) has begun constructing two new station buildings for almost 100 million crowns. The new facilities will serve passengers in Chodov and Aš next year. They are funded 70 percent by European funds as part of the National Recovery Plan, said SŽ General Director Jiří Svoboda to reporters today.
The unsuitable station buildings in Chodov and Aš will be demolished by the builders. "It is always a major topic whether to keep the existing buildings that have their historical character and are often perceived by citizens almost as artifacts," said Svoboda. The new facility will be barrier-free, energy-efficient, and tastefully integrated into the area.
In the Chodov station, it will be located near the entrance to the new underpass, constructed during the recent building of modern platforms costing 500 million crowns. The current station building is in poor technical condition, and the operating costs are high. The new facility, costing 34.4 million crowns, will be single-story, energy-efficient, and partially set into the terrain. It will include a new parking lot, bike storage boxes, and space adjustments. The completion is expected by the fall of next year.
According to the mayor of Chodov, residents welcome the construction of the new building. The town hall also aimed for the extension of the current underpass to Hrnčířská Street, a plan that SŽ is now preparing. Chodov will participate in the construction of sidewalks, bus stops, turning areas, and public lighting. The costs will amount to several million crowns.
The construction of the station building in Aš will be more expensive, costing 68.8 million crowns. It will replace a building from 1971, which is oversized by today's standards and is also in unsatisfactory condition. In cooperation with the town, the Railway Administration will also adjust the area in front of the station, build a small bus terminal, and a parking lot. The town will pay 11 million crowns for this. Completion is expected by the end of next year.
