Brno - The construction of the new Czech Television studio in Brno's Líšeň, on the former Zetor site, is expected to be completed by mid-2014. During October to December of this year, a contractor for the construction should be selected through a public competition. Its budget has been reduced from 560 million to the current 341 million crowns. This was announced today by the director of the Brno studio, Karel Burian, at the Brno meeting of the Czech Television Council.

"We expect that construction companies will have a great interest, so we could potentially achieve an even lower price," said the head of television technology, Pavel Čermák. The original budget was set at 560 million, but Czech Television has decided not to build a studio and will continue to use the current one in Židenice. Similarly, storage facilities and other buildings currently used by the studio in Židenice will not be constructed. "We still have space for a studio in the planned construction, and it is possible to complete it in the future," added Čermák.
New premises will significantly simplify, accelerate, reduce costs, and, above all, improve the operations of the Brno studio. "For fifty years we have been in a temporary solution in the Typos Palace. There was no other solution at that time. It was examined whether it would be possible to reconstruct Typos, but it would be more expensive than a new building, and we would have to operate somewhere else for two years. The new studio will be built according to television logistics," Burian said. The current premises do not meet the needs not only in terms of internal arrangement but also due to their location in the less accessible center of Brno. "In Líšeň, there will be an entirely new infrastructure; however, technology will be transferred from the current studio," added Čermák.
Employees will move to Líšeň all at once. "The acceptance inspection should take place in September 2014. Before that, we will start broadcasting so-called into the wall to work out any issues, so everything will be ready. The second group of employees will have to ensure broadcasting from Typos. There will likely be a two-week to month-long outage during the complete move," Burian anticipates.
Just four years ago, it was expected that the studio would be located in the district of Bosonohy, but three years ago, Czech Television bought land in Líšeň from Zetor.
