Brno - The Faculty Hospital in Brno has received approval for the construction of a parking garage near the Children's Hospital on Černopolní Street, as of yet not legally binding. It applied for this in February 2024. This comes from a document published on the city's official notice board. The facility has also selected a contractor after the deadline for submitting bids was postponed multiple times, spokesperson Pavel Žára said earlier to ČTK. He did not disclose the price or timeline. According to original plans, the building was supposed to be completed this year. Parking in the vicinity of the Children's Hospital has long been problematic for both visitors and local residents.

The building will have four above-ground and one underground floors. The architectural expression is defined by a transparent shell made of expanded metal, which can be covered with greenery. The entrance level will have sanitary facilities with a cleaning room, and the top floor will have charging stations for electric vehicles. The project also includes two elevators, one of which has the capacity to transport beds. The new building will serve hospital staff and visitors. It will have a capacity of 373 spaces, including nine for disabled passengers, four for families with children, and 20 for electric vehicles. The building will be connected by a new entrance from the park at the corner of Helfertova and Černopolní Streets.

The hospital launched the tender for the contractor last November. According to Žára, the deadline extensions were related to answering queries from individual interested parties regarding the investment. The construction was also delayed due to comments from residents of Helfertova Street, who initially did not have the opportunity to express their opinions on the proposal. They particularly disagreed with the original location of the entrance opposite the residential buildings on Helfertova Street. They only became part of the process after insisting on it. The hospital subsequently modified the project.

The building authority had to address several objections. It assessed, among other factors, the impact of the construction on the neighboring buildings and whether the conditions for their use would worsen. According to the authority, it is evident that traffic intensity in the area will increase. However, due to the change in the location of the traffic connection and its diversion from the nearest residential buildings towards the park, it will not be to an unreasonable degree. Residents of homes on Helfertova Street, according to the authority, need not fear excessive shading of their homes or too much noise from the operation of the parking garage. Increased dust and noise during construction are considered inevitable phenomena.
