The winner of this year's The International Highrise Award 2006 is the headquarters of Barcelona's water company Torre Agbar by Jean Nouvel. The results were announced on Monday by the chairman of the jury Werner Sobek. The award, subsidized by 50,000 Euro, has been granted since 2003 by the city of Frankfurt in collaboration with DekaBank to buildings taller than one hundred meters. In addition to the winner, four other buildings were honored: Turning Torso in Malmö by Santiago Calatrava, the residential tower Wienerberg in Vienna by Delugan Meissl, Montevideo in Rotterdam by Mecanoo, and Jian Wai SOHO in Beijing by Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto. The award ceremony for the winners and honorees will take place on November 17, 2006, at Frankfurt's Paulskirche, and the following day there will be an exhibition of all 19 projects nominated this year at DAM.
