Zlín – Today, the Zlín city council approved the establishment of the City Architect's Office (KAM). As a contributory organization of the city, it is expected to be created at the beginning of next year. It will serve as the main conceptual workplace in the city for architecture, urbanism, public space creation, and participation with locals. It is expected to work, among other things, on changes to the zoning plan, the city leadership stated.
Zlín is a symbol of modern architecture from the first half of the 20th century, thanks to the entrepreneurial activities of the Baťa company. "The city leadership is fully aware of the significant architectural legacy, and therefore decided to prepare a design studio for the city – the City Architect's Office of Zlín. It is meant to be the main conceptual workplace in the fields of architecture, urbanism, public space creation, and citizen participation. This office should, among other things, work on changes to the zoning plan, which would significantly accelerate the zoning change process," said Deputy Mayor Miroslav Adámek (STAN).
The office should propose urban and transportation studies, work with city data, prepare architectural and urban competitions, and create streets, squares, and parks.
"The city of Zlín has been built since the 1920s according to the plans of outstanding architects and urbanists, and the city leadership placed a strong emphasis on quality and functional architecture. We would like to build on this period. We want the city's public space to be realized in a high-quality, conceptual manner and to be welcoming for the city's residents. Our goal is to create a respected institute that will coordinate individual buildings and processes in the city and the revitalization of public spaces, so that they are interconnected and complement each other," stated Deputy Mayor Pavel Brada (ANO).
The head of KAM will be the chief architect of the city as its director, and it will include not only architects and urbanists, but also transportation engineers, landscape architects, and public relations specialists.
