Zlín - Zlín is preparing the establishment of the City Architect's Office (KAM). It is to be the main conceptual workplace in the fields of architecture, urbanism, public space creation, and participation with the city's residents, spokesperson for the city hall Tomáš Melzer informed CTK in a press release today.
The office should work on changes to the zoning plan, propose urban and transportation studies, work with data about the city, prepare architectural and urban design competitions, and create streets, squares, and parks.
"We want the public space of the city to be realized with quality, conceptually, and to be friendly to the residents of the city. Zlín has a great architectural tradition, which we want to build upon. Our goal is to establish a respected institute that will coordinate individual constructions and processes in the city and the revitalization of public space so that they are interconnected and complement each other. It should also align the interests of residents, the city, and investors," stated Deputy Mayor Pavel Brada (ANO).
The City Architect's Office should be a contributory organization, headed by the city's chief architect as the director. "KAM should include not only architects and urban planners but also traffic engineers, landscape architects, and experts on public participation," said the spokesperson. According to him, the city leadership considered three variants for the institution. Ultimately, the establishment of a contributory organization was chosen as the most suitable. "This form was also recommended by the advisory body of the city council, the construction and urban development commission," added Melzer.
Preparation for the office has been underway since the beginning of this year. "We are preparing a document that will be discussed on December 2 at the Zlín City Council, and if approved by the council, it will go for approval to the city assembly. According to our expectations, KAM should be established at the beginning of next year," stated Brada.
