In Nymburk, the ceremonial hall will be temporarily closed from May due to the renovation of the crematorium

Nymburk - In Nymburk, the ceremonial hall will be closed for more than a year starting May 8 due to the next phase of the crematorium reconstruction. The last farewells will be organized by the funeral service at alternative locations in the Church of St. Giles in Nymburk or at the ceremonial hall in Lysá nad Labem, the city's spokesperson Marta Svobodová informed today in a press release.

"At this stage, it is no longer possible to maintain the operation of the ceremonial hall. Due to the subsequent rough construction work and preparations for restoration activities, it will be completely closed," the spokesperson stated. The closure is planned from May 8 to June 30 of next year, but according to the spokesperson, the duration of the repairs may be influenced by the specifics of the restoration of the national cultural monument or unforeseen circumstances at the construction site. The operation of the crematorium and the funeral service will remain unaffected. The city warns that in case of farewells in the Church of St. Giles, these are civil ceremonies, not religious funerals.

The extensive reconstruction of the heritage-protected crematorium building, costing nearly 30 million crowns excluding VAT, began last August. Work was carried out with partial operation, with ceremonies mostly limited to Fridays.

The crematorium building in the Nymburk district of Drahelice, built in 1924, was designed by architects Bedřich Feuerstein and Bohumil Sláma. It is one of the first purist buildings in the Czech Republic and was declared a national cultural monument in 2017.

The funeral service in Nymburk is provided by Atropos Nymburk, and the city is the operator of the crematorium.
