Prague - The Prague 3 municipality has applied for a grant of 188 million crowns from the National Recovery Plan, which it wants to use for the reconstruction of the former city baths on Husitská Street in Žižkov into a dance center. The spokesperson for the municipality, Pavel Trojan, informed ČTK about this. The House of Dance will be created in collaboration with the non-profit organization Tanec Praha. The estimated total costs for the reconstruction are 278 million crowns.
The organization Tanec Praha previously succeeded in a tender by Prague 3 for the lease of the four-story building and provided the municipality with studies, analyses, and other documents for the grant application. "The space is suitable for creating rehearsal rooms, studios, a sound studio, a wellness center, as well as a café or dining area. We want to offer open rehearsals, lessons, discussions, a reading room, a library, and especially insight into creative processes and the opportunity to work with professionals to interested parties of all ages," said the director of Tanec Praha, Yvona Kreuzmannová.
The Žižkov baths were in operation since 1903 and included, among other things, two swimming pools and steam baths. Subsequently, the building served several other purposes. In recent years, the building has been empty. Last September, the House of Dance Art was also opened in the area of the former Braník brewery, where, for example, the Dance Center Prague conservatory is based.
The funds from the National Recovery Plan from the EU fund will be distributed by the Czech Republic until 2026. The plan was created as a tool to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic and to restart the economy using European funds from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility between 2021 and 2027. The Czech Republic is expected to receive 179 billion crowns in the form of grants.
