Prague – The Prague City Hall will collaborate with the Prague 3 municipality and the Tanec Praha association to create a House of Dance, which is to be located in the currently unused building of the former municipal baths on Husitská Street in Žižkov. The city council today approved a memorandum for cooperation in its construction. The House of Dance project succeeded about two years ago in a competition announced by the Prague 3 municipality for the utilization of the building.
According to previous information, the establishment of the dance center is expected to cost around 150 million crowns, with the larger part being sought by the Tanec Praha association from the National Recovery Plan. The city, according to the city councilor for culture, Hana Třeštíková (Praha Sobě), will likely ensure the necessary co-financing. The Prague 3 municipality provided the association with the building on a 25-year lease for a symbolic price based on the competition. The memorandum of cooperation still needs to be approved by Prague 3.
The House is meant to be a creative and educational center of a community nature. It will offer artists space and technical and administrative support for creation and research. It is also intended to be open to the public, featuring a café, wellness for dancers and visitors, and various presentations will also take place there. Residential studios for artists from abroad and other regions are also planned. "Since it used to be baths, there are various possibilities such as exercise rooms or rehabilitation rooms and similar things that are needed," added Třeštíková.
The Žižkov baths were in operation since 1903 and included, among other things, two swimming pools and steam baths. Subsequently, the building served several other purposes. In recent years, the house has been empty. Last September, the House of Dance Art was also opened in the area of the former Braník brewery, where the Conservatory Dance Center Prague is based.
