Prague - The Prague 1 city hall is considering the construction of underground garages near its hospital Na Františku. There is a shortage of parking spaces in the area, and cars are parked on sidewalks and in other places where it is not allowed. The capacity of the garages is expected to be 80 to 100 spaces. The construction costs are currently estimated at 100 to 200 million crowns, said councilor Filip Dvořák (ODS) to journalists today.

The underground parking could be built next year. According to the councilor, the city hall would like to take advantage of the overall renovation of Dvořák's embankment, which is being prepared by the magistrate. It will be completely closed.
According to Dvořák, the subsoil of the embankment consists of rubble from the demolition of Josefov and the Old Town a hundred years ago. The garages would be created by removing the fill. It has already been decided that the entrance and exit will not be directly from the riverbank. "Prague 1 has a long-term goal of creating recreational areas from the riverbanks," said the councilor.
The city hall will now have a more detailed study prepared, which will also include a timeline for potential construction and a more accurate cost estimate. The garages are intended to serve the hospital, and possibly the surrounding area.
