“The location Na Františku could have been a very attractive corner of Prague. It lies between the riverbank and the Petrská quarter with its romantic alleys. However, today visitors do not seek it out much due to its neglect and traffic,” said the director of IPR Prague, Petr Hlaváček. After floods swept through Prague in 2002 and 2013, the pavement on Dvořákovo nábřeží is in very poor condition. Prague is now preparing to repair it - and will also restore the sidewalks and adjacent public spaces, including a small park. In the preparation of the conceptual study, which will propose new urban and operational solutions for Dvořákovo nábřeží, the city will involve citizens. In the first phase, they can fill out a questionnaire regarding their satisfaction with the current state, what changes they would like, or how they would prefer to use public spaces in the future. The questionnaire is available until February 5, 2016, at www.spolupraze.cz/nafrantisku. In addition, field surveys will be conducted on the riverbank - citizens will be able to share their opinions on the future of the riverbank at infostands, where urban planners and architects will interview them at the turn of January and February. “In the coming years, the riverbank in the section between Čechův and Štefánik's bridges is expected to see additional plans that IPR Prague intends to consider and coordinate in the preparation of the study. These include adjustments to the traffic regime on the embankment or the opening of the gardens of the Convent of St. Agnes, which the National Gallery is planning,” says Petr Hlaváček. The area that the study addresses is characterized by having very few permanent residents. Dvořákovo nábřeží underwent its last wave of demolition in the 1930s, when the former buildings made way for large public buildings. “The main actors in this area are institutions of municipal and international scope - it is home to the Na Františku hospital, the National Gallery, the Faculty of Law, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. We plan to collaborate with their representatives in the preparation of the conceptual study,” Hlaváček adds. Dvořákovo nábřeží lies between the popular Rašínovo nábřeží and the less frequented Alšovo nábřeží. It features an embankment that currently serves as a dock for cruise ships. One peculiarity is the very name of the riverbank. This part of Prague was historically called "Na Františku." The actual technical work, that is, the communication, river regulation, and the riverbank wall with ramps, however, is named Dvořákovo nábřeží. The buildings still bear the addresses Na Františku, even though a sign with the name of the street Dvořákovo nábřeží is attached to their facades. Discussions with citizens could also reveal which of the names they wish to use in the future as a designation for the given location.
