Plzeň - This year, Plzeň will invest tens of millions in repairing numerous municipal sports facilities and complexes. The city council will commence, for example, the reconstruction of the Prokopávka complex, build a players' entrance at the football stadium, a new sports hall, and start the renovation of the swimming pool. Compared to last year, the city will allocate approximately 60 million crowns more for sports facilities, said Mayor Martin Zrzavecký (ČSSD) to ČTK. The city hall has managed to reduce operational costs for sports facilities by about eight million crowns.

Significant investment projects will include the renovation of the swimming pool in Slovany. It will start in spring. For 52 million crowns, the boiler room and the heat exchanger station will be relocated, and a children's pool will be built in their place. In the next phase, changing rooms will be constructed, and the entrance will be rebuilt. The city is also counting on repairing the cooling pool and changing rooms in the sauna at the pool for around three million crowns.

This year, the city council also wants to complete the project for the comprehensive reconstruction and renovation of the Prokopávka complex, so construction could start in September. By 2020, around 174 million crowns is expected to be invested. "The reconstruction of the gymnasium, football field, the construction of a small gym for boxing, beach courts, an inline track, multipurpose outdoor fields, accommodation, a restaurant, basically complete facilities including parking is planned," described the councilor for sports, Petr Chvojka.

For 120 million crowns, the third sports hall in the handball complex of TJ Lokomotiva Plzeň is to be completed this year. It is expected to be finished in September. Near the hockey Home Monitoring Arena, the city will complete a synthetic surface field between the first and second ice rinks for 11.5 million, and construction of accommodation for the hockey academy is also planned, along with the establishment of a dignified main entrance to the stadium. The second ice rink will receive a new timing system and scoreboard.

A total of 18 million crowns is allocated for the last missing part of the Doosan Arena football facility in Štruncovy sady - the players' entrance.

The city is also preparing to develop zoning documentation for the modernization of the archery range in Štruncovy sady, including the construction of a hall. The documentation for completing facilities for the floorball players will be finalized. At the athletics stadium in Skvrňany, there are plans to build a refreshment and relaxation facility for 6.6 million crowns, with an additional 3.5 million crowns for a new running facility.
