Plzeň - The West Bohemian metropolis of Plzeň plans to build a new sports complex in connection with Prague's intended candidacy to host the Olympic Games. The city is being considered as one of the venues for the football tournament. In addition to a stadium with heated grass and a capacity of 20,000 seated spectators, the complex will include an aquapark with a tropical pool and waterfall, a covered slope for skiers with artificial snow measuring over 300 meters, a hotel, restaurants, massage services, and fitness centers for two billion crowns. The West Bohemian editions of Deník report this today. The idea of this unique sports facility was initiated in Plzeň by businessman and effective owner of the first league club Viktoria Plzeň, Miroslav Kříž. The city would invest between 350 and 700 million crowns into the project, while private investors would provide additional funding. The multifunctional sports facility could be situated on municipal land in the Borská pole industrial zone on the outskirts of Plzeň. The investment depends on an agreement with Prague. "If the Olympics in football were really held here, we would invest 700 million crowns and part of the stadiums would be subsidized by the Olympic Committee - especially the infrastructure for athlete accommodations. If it were just a stadium without the Olympics, we would contribute 350 million," stated Plzeň Mayor Pavel Rödl.
