Plzeň - Plzeň plans to build a new brick multifunctional hall with a movable stand next year in the Slovany district in the sports complex of TJ Lokomotiva. The construction, estimated at around 120 million crowns, which the city has already allocated, will arise next to the current hall, primarily used by the extraleague handball team Talent. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Pavel Šindelář (ODS) to ČTK.

"The expected amount is not yet in the budget because we do not have an implementation project yet, but funds are blocked in the fund," he stated. According to him, the project can be completed this year and work can start next year. The construction, according to the deputy, can be completed in a year.

The sports facility, which will be built on the city land where there is currently a cinder pitch, will be slightly smaller than the existing adjacent TJ Lokomotiva hall from 1974. It will be connected by a corridor, as handball players will also partially use it. "The new hall will relieve the current one from other sports. Handball players will be able to utilize the current Lokomotiva more for their training and matches," said the deputy.

According to him, in the 170,000-strong city of Plzeň, ten multifunctional halls for various sports could be built, all of which would be filled. The city is gradually building them where sports already take place and creating sports centers there. Similar to the TJ Lokomotiva complex, which is used by both professional and amateur athletes, they want to invest in the purely "amateur" complex Na Prokopávce. Up to 150 million crowns will go there, mainly for outdoor fields, further for the refurbishment of a hostel, gym, facilities, a boxing ring, beach volleyball courts, and a football field with artificial grass. The reconstruction of the complex is currently being designed and could begin as early as 2018.

In 2009, the largest indoor sports facility in West Bohemia, TJ Lokomotiva, was created in Slovany for 220 million crowns. The city fully renovated the old hall for 100 million crowns, where, in addition to handball, the first basketball league is played and concerts and exhibitions are held. The sports facility, with a court size of 45 by 25 meters, has seating for 3,000 spectators; European championships can be held there. Next to it, a new training hall measuring 50 by 30 meters was built for 120 million crowns, along with covered climbing walls, professional bowling, two squash courts, and three outdoor fields with artificial lighting.
