Olomouc - A new sports hall with a multipurpose field was ceremoniously opened today at the Čajkovského Gymnasium in Olomouc. The modern sports facility called Čajkaréna, into which the Olomouc Region invested 66.5 million crowns, has risen in less than a year on the site of the original cinder field and will serve students and athletes from various clubs.

"The sports complex is the largest similar investment for us in the region. It will provide professional facilities for both students and athletes. The gym and the field can be used for all ball sports," said Olomouc Governor Martin Tesařík (ČSSD) to reporters today.
The new sports hall is connected to the gymnasium building, has sanitary facilities, and an audience with 126 seats. The adjacent outdoor multipurpose field with artificial surface includes a straight running track and a long jump sector. "We have also restored the beach volleyball court here," Tesařík noted.
The facility will be used not only by gymnasium students, some of whom attend sports classes, but also by various clubs focused on sports such as football, basketball, handball, or martial arts. According to the gymnasium's director Radek Čapka, local sports clubs are very interested in the new hall, as there is a lack of similar facilities in the city of one hundred thousand.
The name of the new sports facility, Čajkaréna, was chosen from two dozen proposals submitted to the regional office by students. Among the suggestions were names like Jiří Raška Hall, Move-hall, Čajka, Talent Center, or S4U. The regional leadership was most interested in Čajkaréna.
Approximately 600 students of both four-year and multi-year studies attend the Čajkovského Gymnasium. Among the school's alumni are footballers David Rozehnal, David Kobylík, and Roman Hubník, hockey player Jaroslav Svoboda, and handball player Lucie Fabíková.
