Brno - Brno plans to build an aquapark behind Lužánky in the Královo Pole district in the coming years. The estimated costs are half a billion crowns, but the project is still in its early stages, said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today.
The aquapark is intended to connect with the existing fifty-meter swimming pool. A wellness area worth 20 million is currently being developed there. Next year, the city will also construct a twenty-five-meter pool for 60 million, where races can then be held. Currently, there is only one aquapark in Brno, located in Kohoutovice, which does not meet the demand due to its capacity.
Brno's city council today approved the proposal for the new aquapark's design. They selected from four options and approved the one with a roof resembling ocean waves. "The construction will include the building of a parking lot and ensuring access to other sports facilities that are planned to be built there," Hladík stated.
In the future, the city also plans to build a new football stadium behind Lužánky to replace the old and dilapidated one. With the help of a private investor, an ice hockey hall for the Kometa Brno club is also expected to be established there.
Regarding the aquapark, according to Hladík, the city will have a 3D model and visualization prepared, which will be showcased at a trade fair in Munich this fall. "Either we find a private investor, or we will finance it as a city. We want to create one complete area where visitors can buy tickets separately for one or the other pool, for wellness, or for the aquapark, and where we can hold competitions," added the deputy governor.
The city considered an aquapark in the mentioned location already 20 years ago. In the 1990s, project documentation was created, the construction was designed and approved. Ultimately, however, the project did not materialize.
