Kyselka continues with the repairs of the roof truss on the St. Wenceslas Church in Radošov

Kyselka – The municipality of Kyselka in Karlovy Vary continues repairs on the Church of St. Wenceslas in Radošov, said Mayor Aleš Labík (independent) to ČTK. The last, fourth phase of repairs to the truss of the church's nave will be complemented this autumn by the restoration of the last of the stained glass windows. In the coming years, the work will shift to the facade, roofing, and the surroundings of the church.

"In each phase, about three or four trusses will be repaired; this part is a bit shorter. The cost is around 600,000 crowns," Labík stated. According to him, the municipality is seeking a grant of 200,000 crowns from the Ministry of Culture from the emergency program.

Once these repairs are completed, the repair of the church's truss will enter its second half, according to the mayor. "There will be space above the chancel remaining, which is historically likely from a somewhat different period. Once this phase is completed, we will cut the floor above the chancel and carry out a complete assessment of the current state, and a project will be prepared for the next phase, where the truly critical areas will be plotted," Labík described the preparations for the final phase of repairs.

The Church of St. Wenceslas in Radošov dates back to the first half of the 14th century. It was originally built in the Gothic style and later underwent Baroque and Classical renovations. However, after the forced expulsion of the German population at the end of World War II, it ceased to be maintained and fell into disrepair. Around 2008, the church was transferred from the ownership of the Roman Catholic Church to the property of the civic association Radošovský most. In March 2011, the Church of St. Wenceslas was entered in the state register of cultural monuments.

The municipality, which manages an annual budget of 20 to 25 million crowns, purchased the church in 2016. Initially, it repaired the church tower, including the clock, and installed an eleven-meter spire there. According to Labík, it is the only functional church on the banks of the Ohře River from Karlovy Vary to Stráž nad Ohří. It also contains functioning organs.
