Aquapark Kohoutovice

Brno - Brno plans to build an aquapark in the district of Královo Pole. Its construction was considered more than 20 years ago when a project was also developed. However, it did not come to fruition. The mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) told reporters that the city will examine the old project documentation to see if it can be used. The aquapark, estimated to cost tens of millions of crowns, would, according to Hladík, build on the current swimming pool at Ponavě.

Brno has only one aquapark in the district of Kohoutovice, but its capacity is no longer sufficient to meet demand. This was stated by Antonín Crha (KDU-ČSL), chairman of the board of the city company Starez-Sport, which manages the sports facilities.

The city considered commissioning a study and project documentation. "At the building authority in Královo Pole, we found documentation and a building permit from 1994. The aquapark was designed and approved for construction, so if we were to follow up on that building permit, the process could be relatively quick," said Hladík.

According to him, the city will analyze the old project documentation and try to contact the designer who created it. "We will see if it would be worth reviving it in light of new building standards. We expected the work to progress more slowly since everything would be done from scratch, but this could unexpectedly accelerate the process," added Hladík. According to him, it is not yet clear how much the new construction would cost, but it is expected to be at least in the tens of millions of crowns.

The aquapark should be linked to the swimming pool at Za Lužánkami. There are also plans for the construction of an ice hockey hall and a football stadium in the area instead of the old one, which is falling into disrepair.

Brno has only one aquapark in Kohoutovice. "Its capacity is already full. It is difficult to get there in the afternoons," added Crha.
