Jindřichův Hradec

Jindřichův Hradec – A central park will be created this year in the largest residential area of Vajgar in Jindřichův Hradec, where 5000 residents live. On an area of 3.8 hectares, some coniferous trees will be replaced with deciduous ones, increasing the proportion of greenery and establishing perennial flower beds. Instead of some asphalt surfaces, there will be paved paths that allow for water absorption. Costs will amount to nearly 53 million crowns excluding VAT, of which 32 million could be covered by a subsidy from the Integrated Regional Operational Program, the spokesperson of the Jindřichův Hradec city hall, Karolína Bartošková, said today.

The transformation of the public space, which developed alongside the housing estate from the 1960s to the 1980s, was planned by the city together with the residents. "A questionnaire survey was conducted, an urban walk with an architect took place, a meeting over a map was held, and the proposal was presented at the Střelnice Cultural House," Bartošková stated. People were then able to send suggestions regarding the proposal. Work on the central park is expected to start in March and be completed by the end of November this year.

The park will have increased green areas and will feature a more diverse range of tree species. Due to the space modifications, the city will allow the felling of 43 trees, with 13 already cut down near the kindergarten. "Rainwater will be absorbed through permeable surfaces, which will reduce runoff into the sewer system. Asphalt surfaces will be replaced with permeable pavements, improving absorption and reducing overheating of the area," the spokesperson described. Previously, there were 1699 m² of permeable surfaces, and after the renovation, 9509 m² will allow water to pass through.

A new pedestrian path will run through the park from the Vajgar pond to the cycle path to Otín, and the lighting will also be replaced. The area will be filled with new benches, atypical long benches, waste containers, clothes drying racks, bicycle and scooter stands, mobile outdoor seating, and ping-pong tables.

The Vajgar residential area is the largest housing complex in Jindřichův Hradec. Almost 5000 residents live in panel buildings, and approximately 1900 people live in adjacent family houses. The estate is a fully functional urban district with kindergartens and primary schools, a health center, shops, and small businesses.
