Prague - According to Deputy Prime Minister Karel Havlíček (ANO), four billion crowns could be allocated this year to the subsidy program New Green Savings. In the Czech Television program Questions of Václav Moravec, he stated today that the government is considering loans, guarantee instruments, and it will also be possible to process pending applications under the old rules. The new Minister of the Environment Igor Červený (Motoristé) will discuss the new rules for drawing subsidies for energy modernization of homes with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) on Monday after his appointment.
The new cabinet originally did not plan to cover the program because it believes the previous government coalition overestimated the revenues from the sale of emission allowances, from which the program is financed. Former Minister Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) spoke in connection with the program about 3.7 billion crowns. The chairman of the opposition ODS, Martin Kupka, stated today that the draft budget of the State Environmental Fund for next year included 12 billion crowns. According to him, this is realistically attainable financing from trading in emission allowances.
The subsidy program has been functioning since 2009 as a tool to motivate property owners to renovate the housing stock and reduce energy consumption. It has so far supported around 600,000 households, with two-thirds of those since 2021, during which time, according to the ministry, investments in energy savings for households amounted to approximately 55 billion crowns.
