Interiors that emphasize functional layout, adaptability to client needs, and high-quality materials are examples of the synergy of design and architecture. In an environment where an above-standard address and a view of an icon of modern architecture set the framework for the project, the result is all the more exceptional.

The apartment created by merging two separate units covering a total area of 248 m² was designed for a young family. Architects from the studio SALPIETRA & GAJDOS architects – an international duo operating since 2012 – built the concept on a careful selection of materials in harmony with the location and the clients' lifestyle to emanate calm and elegance.

The living room was designed as a multifunctional space with a projector and a space for a piano

The clients desired a combination of wood decor and light colors, unified flooring throughout the interior with a subtle, unobtrusive pattern, and a kitchen with a large island/peninsula. The architects managed to create an interior that combines tranquil elegance with playful functionality and reflects the needs of all household members – from parents to small children.

Materials and details as a tool of architectural expression

The color neutrality of the space is enlivened by accents in the form of metallic elements with a brushed gold finish, placed for example on round wall lights. Playfulness and dynamism are supported by the alternation of matte and glossy surfaces, which are particularly pronounced in the bedroom and living room. Unifying elements include cleverly used slats – from the ceiling in the living room to the headboard in the bedroom – creating visual continuity.

MASTER doors in a hidden frame and EFEKTA cladding combined with the floor accentuate the clients' desire for a combination of wood decor and light colors

Doors in a hidden frame emphasize clean design in the spirit of minimalism

"The minimalist approach to the interior has significantly made its presence felt in all rooms, especially in the intricately designed hallway," notes one of the co-founders of the SAGA studio, Mr. Andrej Gajdoš, and continues: "We used a sophisticated cladding EFEKTA system from the company JAP FUTURE, which allowed us to clad walls in wood décor while also incorporating doors with above-standard height and the same décor. The MASTER doors in a hidden frame thus align with the cladding and create a clean plane."

Lighting as a compositional element

The lighting concept was not perceived solely in terms of practicality, but also as an architectural component of the interior. Variable light fixtures layer the space, adding depth and highlighting the simplicity of the finishes.

Sliding IDEALINE VERTICAL doors naturally separate the bedroom from the background

Natural incorporation of storage spaces

A generous, variable wardrobe offers sufficient storage space for the parents, naturally separated from the bedroom by large-format sliding doors IDEALINE VERTICAL. "A unique feature is the PREMIUM sliding system, in which the doors are stored and which we prioritized after consultation with experts from JAP FUTURE. The PREMIUM sliding system has sufficient load-bearing capacity, a hidden rail, and is anchored directly to the load-bearing ceiling," explains Andrej Gajdoš.

MASTER doors in a hidden frame and EFEKTA cladding create a single plane. In the bathroom, the interplay of wood decor and stone surfaces is noticeable. Note the unified flooring.

Bathrooms are dominated by clean surfaces and wood

The bathrooms utilize large-format tiles that visually enlarge the space and support the impression of compactness. Wood decors provide softness and warmth, balancing the clarity of stone surfaces.

Airy children's room with intuitive storage spaces, colorfully matching the rotating MASTER doors

Children's rooms in the spirit of Montessori

The architects integrated Montessori principles, which support the child's independence through easy access to all functional zones of the room. The furniture and storage spaces are designed to be intuitively usable while keeping the space airy and uncluttered.

Exceptional interior…

"The result is a living space that manages to connect functionality with aesthetic sophistication without losing its minimalist character," evaluates Andrej Gajdoš from the SAGA studio and adds: "Through working with textures, materials, and light, a cozy family environment has emerged that transcends the typical standard of living."

MArch. MAUD. Andrej A.D. Gajdoš founded the SAGA studio in 2012 with Domenico Salpietra. In this international partnership, they focus on architecture, interior, and urban design around the world.
