In the picturesque setting of the Krkonoš Mountains, just a few minutes from Špindlerův Mlýn, there is a reconstructed former company cottage, which today serves as a recreational object. The sensitive renovation has preserved the mountain character of the building, but with the comfort corresponding to current needs – primarily thanks to the new tiled stoves from the workshop of Kamnářství Volech.
"When the investor came to me requesting a quick onset of heat upon arrival at the cottage and also a long-term radiation after the fire goes out, I knew we had to build traditional tiled stoves, which simply belong to Krkonoš cottages, and combine them with modern accumulation heating technology and hypocaust," says stove maker Zdeněk Volech, the author of the design and implementation.

Technical solution for quick heat onset and long-term radiation
The heart of the stove is a corner stove insert from the company Hoxter, complemented by the accumulation flue system KMS from the Austrian manufacturer Ortner. The linings and hypocaust partitions are made of magnesite bricks, which significantly increase the accumulation capacity of the entire construction. "Magnesite bricks can retain a large amount of heat, so the stove continues to radiate warmth long after the fire has gone out," explains Volech.
The stove functions not only as the main heat source in the living area, but the convective flow around the insert also effectively heats the adjacent bathroom and hallway. The flue system simultaneously transfers heat to the accumulation seating, ideal for relaxation after a mountain hike.
Double glazing improves the insulation properties of the doors and reduces the intensity of radiant heat directed into the interior.
Corner glazing
"A great choice and example of unconventional design is corner glazing, which allows viewing the fire from different angles and brings airiness and dynamism into the room," adds the stove maker. The large glazed areas vividly frame the dancing flames, creating a unique atmosphere in the cottage.
The designed tiled stove is an example of how traditional heating methods can be harmonized with a modern lifestyle. Thus, in the Krkonoš cottage today stands a reliable heat source that not only captivates with its appearance but also meets the needs of the house’s users and ensures them greater comfort.
