Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment, along with Avatech Solutions, a premium provider of Autodesk solutions, announce that HDR has adopted the Revit platform among its tools using BIM (Building Information Modeling) methods. The Revit platform will increase productivity and enhance collaboration among various professions in the design field across the company. HDR has signed a 3-year contract worth several million dollars, which includes nearly 1,800 licenses of Autodesk software and consulting services provided by both Autodesk and Avatech Solutions. In addition to the Revit platform, the agreement also includes licenses for AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP software products. “HDR has been using BIM methods for over three years,” says Brandt Karstens, Vice President and Director of the Architecture Division at HDR. “The Revit platform fully embraces three-dimensional BIM modeling and database access. For our design activities, we also use AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP solutions. Specifically, these relate to areas of water management, environment, and commercial classification for resource management. HDR’s management team views the new agreement and Autodesk’s BIM tools as key drivers to achieving our goal of fully operating based on BIM methodology by the end of 2010.” HDR is an employee-owned architectural, engineering, and consulting firm. HDR employs more than 6,800 professionals at over 150 locations worldwide. The company is highly recognized for its extensive expertise in various project areas, from healthcare and nanotechnology to transportation, water management, and environmental management. Its clients include significant public entities such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service, alongside commercial organizations. The use of Autodesk's platform will facilitate collaboration in the construction field across HDR and overall improve services through faster identification of design issues in the design process. This ultimately eliminates delays and reduces material costs. The BIM method is an integrated process built on coordinated, reliable project information, from design through construction to operational activities. With the help of BIM methods, architects, engineers, designers, and business owners can easily create coordinated, digital design information and documentation. This information can then be utilized for more accurate visualization, simulation, and performance analysis, appearance, and costs, thereby reliably delivering projects faster, more economically, and with less environmental impact. For 10 years, Avatech Solutions has been helping HDR achieve its business goals through innovative technology solutions. Avatech has previously implemented BIM methodology at HDR and is now working on an intensive transition for HDR to the Autodesk platform. Autodesk and Avatech Solutions will collaborate on implementation planning, resource allocation, and monitoring steps toward the established goals. “For a long time, Avatech has been advising companies and industry leaders like HDR. Our team always thinks about how to achieve substantial improvements in business processes using top-tier technology,” explains George Davis, President and CEO, Avatech Solutions. “Our extensive experience across several industries and unparalleled technical qualifications continue to allow us to assist businesses that want to lead and ‘raise the bar’ in their field. We look forward to working with HDR for at least another 10 years.” “HDR shares Autodesk's vision. We consider the BIM method to be the ideal process for the integrated delivery of projects,” states Jay Bhatt, Senior Vice President, Autodesk AEC Solutions. “We are pleased that leading companies in the market, such as HDR, utilize the Revit platform along with other BIM solutions like Autodesk Civil 3D, to create professionally collaborating BIM processes covering infrastructure design, architecture, and metal structure design.”
