Lecture combined with discussion - Christopher Schweiger, member of the studio Delugan Meissl, January 19, 2006, at 6:00 PM, Raiffeisen Building Society headquarters, Koněvova 99, Prague 3
A public lecture by Christopher Schweiger, a member of the Vienna studio Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, will take place at the headquarters of Raiffeisen Building Society /RSTS/ on January 19, 2006, at 6:00 PM on the occasion of the opening of an exhibition of Czech residential projects from recent years. The Delugan Meissl studio is one of the most progressive studios in Vienna. Since its establishment in 1993, its projects have been characterized by a quest for experimentation, focusing on spatial connections related to the surprising external form of buildings and an emphasis on the material representation of surfaces. The professional public was particularly attracted by the Beam Residential Building from 1998 with 250 apartments, located in Donau-City in Vienna. This unique residential building, 180 meters long, could be called a "horizontal skyscraper," a tanker moored on the banks of the New Danube. The structure, with its piloted foundations, resembles Le Corbusier's Unité d´habitation. Architecture by Delugan Meissl is often spoken of in Austria in superlatives, even encountering new evaluative expressions like "James Bond-Look". This is evidenced by the studio's most published "manifesto" - the futuristic rooftop extension called House Ray (apartment of the Delugan couple - note) from 2003. The studio's latest significant success is the first prize in the invited competition for the new Film Museum in Amsterdam from last July, which will soon be realized.
