The new publication Yearbook of Wooden Buildings 2019 (released on February 12, 2020) documents all the buildings from the Salon of Wooden Buildings 2020 exhibition. This unique full-color title in format 180 x 180 with a range of 96 pages presents each of the buildings selected for presentation in the current year of the international non-competitive showcase of modern wooden buildings on a two-page spread with color photographs, text, and floor plans. The Salon of Wooden Buildings is currently the largest event of its kind in Central Europe, focusing on new modern wooden architecture in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The most numerous group of wooden buildings represented in the publication are family homes and weekend houses. The spectrum of inspirations is diverse – from extensions to renovations to various types of newly built houses with plastered and wooden facades. Among those published are family homes of various sizes suitable for urban and rural settings, built on a variety of plots. These are predominantly houses created by Czech and Slovak architects, complemented by three projects from Austria and one each from Hungary and Germany.
Unusual structures in the Yearbook include wooden objects in greenery created at a student workshop, a cozy shelter built above a pillbox, or a lookout tower. Among the public buildings, you will find in the Yearbook, among others, a kindergarten, a boat workshop, a fitness center, and a clubhouse for a sports team. The represented creators include leading and established studios and architects of wooden buildings from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as younger authors who have found enjoyment in eco-friendly construction methods.
The Yearbook of Wooden Buildings 2019 is complemented at the end by synthesizing texts from the curators of the Salon – Ľubica Fábri (SK) and Pavel Horák (CZ), focusing on the current state of modern wooden architecture in Slovakia, Austria, and the themes of the prospects for multi-story wooden buildings.
