Trutnov - The reconstruction of the pedestrian zone in Horská Street in the center of Trutnov for 44 million crowns should be completed by the end of June 2021. The repair is divided into two phases, with the first starting in early July and covering the section from Krakonoš Square to Svatojanské Square. In the second phase, builders will repair the connecting section along the Máj department store to Republic Square. Michaela Dědková, spokeswoman for the city council, told ČTK.

The reconstruction is being carried out by the Litoměřice company Gardenline according to the design of architects Martin Hájek, Václav Hájek, and Lukáš Kemr.

"The first phase should be completed by autumn; then it will depend on the weather. If there is a typical winter, a break would be made. If the winter is mild, work will continue through it. Both options are currently on the table," Dědková told ČTK.

The pedestrian zone will receive new granite paving, new public lighting, benches, additional greenery, pedestrian and delivery zones will be established, a new water feature will be created in Svatojanské Square, and part of the historical water drive will be restored.

In connection with the reconstruction, a smaller parking lot near the bicycle tower next to the bus station is temporarily closed. The parking lot, which is now serving as a construction base, will be out of operation until May 2021. "We were looking for a space that would not be far from the pedestrian zone and would also be accessible to larger construction machinery. Unfortunately, we temporarily had to sacrifice the parking lot next to the bicycle tower, as it is an ideal location in the city center," said Miroslav Franc, head of the city's development department.

Motorists will not lose parking in the city center; cars can continue to park in the adjacent parking lot near the district court, or behind the brewery, next to the leisure center complex, or in garages beneath the Uffo cultural center.

The reconstruction of the pedestrian zone is the second largest investment this year for the thirty-one thousand inhabitants of Trutnov. The first was a major renovation of the pools and the entire swimming area, which was completed at the end of June and cost 74.5 million crowns. The reconstruction of the swimming pool took over a year.
