Trutnov - The city hall of the thirty-one thousand inhabitants of Trutnov wants to revamp the main pedestrian zone in the city on Horská Street. The city has announced an architectural competition for the new design of the street. The deadline for submitting proposals is April 12, 2018. The city hall has so far estimated the cost of the street reconstruction at 30 million crowns. A more precise estimate should be known after the evaluation of the architectural competition, the mayor Ivan Adamec (ODS) said today.
Horská Street is to be revitalized in a nearly 300-meter long section from the historic Krakonoš Square to the Republic Square. Architects are to propose a new design for Svatojanského Square, over which Horská Street runs. "The proposal should serve as a conceptual basis for future changes. It should spatially, compositionally, architecturally, and artistically emphasize the connection between the historical Krakonoš Square and the new Republic Square," Adamec stated.
The new design of Horská Street should prioritize pedestrians. Architects should eliminate areas where pedestrians conflict with delivery vehicles and other traffic. "The pedestrian zone should not only serve a transportation function but also a recreational, resting, and representative purpose," the mayor added.
The winning architectural proposals will be rewarded for first to third places with 180,000 crowns, 100,000 crowns, and 70,000 crowns, respectively. After the evaluation of the architectural competition, the city will be able to commission the development of project documentation and subsequently proceed to the tender for the construction contractor.
The current main investment project of the city is the construction of a leisure center for children and youth in the Na Nivách area for 197 million crowns. The center is set to be completed by the end of 2018 through the renovation and expansion of an outdated sports complex.
