Interest in the tour of the previously inaccessible Flemmich Villa was shown

Krnov (Bruntál region) - People from Krnov came today to see the interiors of the famous Flemmich villa, which has been empty for several years. In the spring, the city plans to open an exhibition of individualistic modernism and a community house in the unused building. The villa has never been publicly accessible, so there was great interest in its tour during the Open Doors Week. Residents and visitors of Krnov can view the architectural gem of the city until December 21, said Dita Círová, spokesperson for the city hall, today.
"Right after the opening, students from secondary schools came for a tour, and seniors were also very interested," Círová stated. The villa is still almost empty, yet its history attracts visitors.
The house, which is a cultural monument, was built in the early 20th century by the prominent Krnov industrialist Theodor Flemmich, who lived there until 1948. After that, the city accommodated eight families in it, and since the 1950s, the complex of buildings along with the garden served as an orphanage. In 2003, the region abolished the institution and transferred the buildings and land to the city with the condition that the city hall would not use them for commercial purposes.
In the villa, designed by the renowned Vienna architect Otto Prutscher, the wooden-paneled entrance hall with a richly carved staircase, stained glass windows with zodiac motifs, heraldic symbols of the city and Silesia, and some furniture have been preserved. The estate also includes an outbuilding, a greenhouse, plots with an ornamental garden, and two functional fountains.
